Erosion

Embroidery on Printed Canvas

“Erosion” symbolises my struggles as a South Korean living in Singapore. In this work, I embroidered traditional Korean elements onto photographs of my mother. This act represents my conscious efforts to embrace my Korean roots and weave them into my identity. However, as time passes, these elements gradually decay, demonstrating the inherent struggle of preserving my cultural identity in the face of time and change. As I reflect on this, I confront the complex nature of identity, while recognising the futility of imposing a fixed cultural identity on myself.
